Celebration of Life

I was very honored to open and direct the celebration of life for Joey Wommack yesterday, May 23rd. The event held at the Arlington Board of Realtors was well attended and it was enjoyable to see so many good friends, some I hadn't seen in awhile.

Among the many funny stories told...although some just could not be shared...I was glad that it was pointed out by several folks the multiplied hours of volunteer work Joey put in, not only to the Arlington Board but also in helping get our regional MLS started. I saw first hand this unselfish work he gave to make our business easier and more obtainable to all agents. One thing for sure, Joey did not have what I call "small thinking"! He was always looking at the broad picture and into the future regarding the Real Estate business. He was not afraid of change!

Joey and Paula were a huge help to me when I started the business and I owe a lot to the both of them for their teaching, guidance and friendship!

In remembrance...

In remembrance of Joey Wommack who recently passed away.

A positive attitude, fun to be around, enjoyed life, especially his family.
Could teach you more about sales in a week than most people can learn in a lifetime.
Tougher than a boot...(Joey would understand and appreciate that comment, so would Cara)
Tough but had a very soft, caring side that I wonder how many knew about.
Was there for you when you asked him or needed him to be.

Thank you Joey, I have met very few men that impress me much, you were always one that did!

Don't forget...3rd annual...Fish For Life Bass Tournament...

The 3rd annual Fish for Life Bass Tournament will be coming up later fall of 2012. I am selling fish for life wrist bands now!

The money raised goes to Cook Children's Hospital to assist families of cystic fibrosis patients in their expenses, etc. Many of these families have to come from out of town and staying for 2-3 weeks at a time is a tremendous hardship, it's tough even for us who live local!

Please contact to me to get one of the wrist bands and help support a really great cause...all in honor and memory of Cara Young! (She would insist I put that in!!!)

Saturday stuff

I noticed that on this day that I've chosen to participate in my first 5K I've run in several years after being off from some previous injuries, that on this day Lincoln was shot in 1865 and the Titanic hit an iceberg in 1912! What a day!

I'm glad that this is the day the Lord has made and no matter what has happened, I WILL rejoice and be glad in it!

Kerby's Point of View - Digital Technology

Interesting article. I have actually been keeping up with some of the reports mentioned here last several years.

Digital Technology
by Kerby Anderson

A recent article in USA Today warned: “Technology can push our crazy buttons
[and] rewire our brains.” Staying connected with digital media can be both a blessing and
a curse. For many people, checking-in with their devices is getting out of hand.

Howard Rheingold, author of Net Smart: How to Thrive Online, recommends
a “mindful use of digital media.” That means we should be aware of what is attracting
our attention. He says you should be making decisions instead of “letting the tweet or the
buzzing of your BlackBerry call your attention.”

Gary Small, a brain researcher at UCLA, has found that digital technology is
changing our brains. Since the human brain changes in response to the environment, our
use of the technology alters our brain pathways. He has documented this through MRIs
and has reported his findings in scientific journals.

Larry Rosen, author of iDisorder: Understanding Our Obsession With
Technology and Overcoming its Hold on Us, says that technology is causing some people
to exhibit various psychological disorders. This would include addiction, depression,
narcissistic personality disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He is concerned that
we have become too enmeshed with these technologies.

Psychiatrist Steve Daviss of the Baltimore Washington Medical Center says of the
feedback we get from digital technology, “The retweets and bings and pings that come
out of the phone every time somebody sends us a text message—create a reward system
in the brain that gives us a little squirt of dopamine each time.” For some people, this can
lead to something that looks like addiction as their brains respond to digital technology.
These are just a few experts who are concerned about the effects of digital
technology on our lives. And I am even more concerned about their impact on a younger
generation whose brains are being rewired in ways we can’t even imagine. I’m Kerby
Anderson, and that’s my point of view.

RE/MAX aniversary

When I started Real Estate in 1989 it was my goal to be at RE/MAX within 5 years. I made that decision because of the RE/MAX business plan, among other things. Just about hit my goal right on the button because on this day, March 29th, 1995 I joined a great company and have been blessed by that decision ever since.

No one ever hears me say that you should leave this company or that one to come here, or for that matter go anywhere. Instead I will share with other folks why I am at RE/MAX and also point out other companies benefits and what they have to offer. Most real estate companies offer good training, etc and each agent must decide for themselves after interviewing which fits them best. Kinda reminds me of sellers interviewing agents!

Have a great Thursday!
